Whatever day of the week it is, it is almost inevitable that the mind ends up wandering to what the weekend has in store. More often than not, (well for me anyway) that means thinking about Saturday or Sunday brunch. 

The act of brunch can not only cost a bomb but can cause some people a world of unnecessary stress, where do we go? Do I order the salmon bagel or the hash brown stack? how do we split the bill at the end? the list goes on...

So instead save some coin, find a sunny spot to perch in the spring sun and indulge in your favorite brunch meals at home.

Welcome to the first blog post from Jess' Underground Kitchen. Here we will share bonus recipes, fun content and keep you in the loop with what's going on in the world of JUK! Firstly, I thought it would be good to explain who we are and what we do and answer some FAQs about our daily fresh meals.

Jess' Underground Kitchen is a community-driven deli, our first born is in the heart of Herne Bay and our second is on the edge of Remuera nearing Newmarket. We are lucky enough to have so many 'regulars' who drop in daily. We love the yarns and appreciate the quality banter that comes with having our deli in two such a welcoming & supportive community. 

Our amazing kitchen staff are hard at work from 6am prepping our delicious cabinet food for the day ahead - everything is cooked fresh daily and we use the best seasonal and local produce we can find.  We're open from 7am - 7pm (serving coffee until 3:30pm); catering for all the various 'rushes' we have throughout the day - including the infamous 'Mom Rush' that hits just after 9am slash school drop-off! 

As well as being a thriving deli, we also pride ourselves on the fresh, home-cooked dinners we provide our customers on a daily basis. The home-cooked meals are made fresh every day and can be ordered from our website, in store or over the phone. Every week our daily dinners change to ensure our hungry customers are experiencing a new flavour explosion! We recommend that customers order our dinners to guarantee a meal, as we sell out every night. To break down the daily dinner situation I thought it would be best to summarise in a short Q&A:  

Are the daily dinners made fresh?

YES! Dinners are made daily. Therefore Monday's dinner is made Monday, Tuesday's made Tuesday and so on. Our dinners are available Monday - Friday and we like to try and provide a vegetarian and paleo option every night, sometimes a vegan option too.  

What is the cost and serving size? 

One JUK dinner meal costs $15 and serves one person. 

Can meals be delivered? 

Of course they can! At JUK we try to make your evenings as stress-free as possible, which is why are not only open till 7pm but have the delivery option available, too. You can opt for delivery through our online system. 

Is pre-ordering dinner necessary for pick-up orders? 

We do recommend that you order the daily meal before 10am. We try to allow for 'spares' each day but these are sold on a first in first serve basis. The best option is to pre-order for the week when our menu comes out on a Sunday via the link in our newsletter. 

Our way of paying it forward and making people smile to offer a free coffee to one lucky name group a day, so far we have had Eliza's, Henry's, Sophie's, Max's, Helen's, David's, Jacquie's, Anna's, Sam's, Josh's, Jess's, Charlotte's, Tom's, Hannah's, Ed's, Emma's, Ava's Jacob's, Eva's Bryce's, Barry's & Kate's. It's not only fun to receive a free coffee but for us it starts the conversation with our customers, allowing us to learn your names and having our store becoming a place you want to visit on your morning rounds. 

Now, we also understand that not everyone has a 'common' or 'mainstream' name so we think it's time introduce a name of the day jar - this way if you want your name to eventually be name of the day, whether it's as common as Kate or as rare as Brita we have got you all covered. Pop in store to add your name to the name of the day jar in both our store.
